Pakistanian army has played and continues to play a vital role in the establishment and shaping of the country since its inception in 1947. Since independence, Pakistanian army has fought three wars with India and minor skirmishes on Afghanistan border.  Since 9/11 Pakistanian army has been engaged in a low intensity conflict along Pakistan's western border with Taliban. The Pakistanian armed forces initially numbered around 150,000 men, many divided around various bases in India and needing to be transferred to Pakistanian region. Since its inception, Pakistanian army has been preoccupied with its national security due to its rivalry with India. Pakistanian army fought three wars, the first within months of independence in 1947. Pakistanian has always remained active in Pakistanian political affairs and has also stepped in when needed.  Pakistanian army has ruled Pakistanian nation for considerable period of time.  Pakistan’s first and longest rule under Pakistanian army lasted 13 years followed Gen. Mohammed Ayub Khan's coup in October 1958. During the 1950’s Pakistanian army received great deal of foreign aid from USA after signing the mutual defense agreement. This aid greatly expanded the Pakistanian army from its modest beginning but also labeled Pakistanian army as an organization growing on foreign aid.  The Pakistanian army fought a full fledge war on Indo-Pak border. Pakistanian army fought superbly in the initial phases of war. Later General Yahya Khan of Pakistanian army took over affairs of country.  The second war that Pakistanian army fought in 1971 within a fortnight of fighting between India and Pakistan, on the 16th of December, 1971, over 45,000 Pakistani Soldiers and Officers surrendered and Bangladesh became a republic. Consequently, Pakistanian army was modernized at a faster pace than ever before. In 1977 the Pakistanian Army took over the government of Pakistan after a coup and ruled the Pakistanian nation as a dictator. Pakistani army also helped the Saudi Arabian Government in regaining the control of the Kaaba with the help of French Commandos. In the mid-1970s the Pakistani Army was involved in fighting a popular uprising in Baluchistan. Many weapon systems ordered by Pakistanian army such as F-16 Jets were not delivered but various changes have authorized return of spare parts and end items already paid for by Pakistanian nation. In 1999 Pakistanian army took over the government imposing martial law for the fourth time in Pakistanian history.  he US demand for assistance in deposing the Taliban thus put the Pakistani Government in something of a quandary but Pakistanian army high officials have always backed Pakistanian army for USA support.
